If I Could Change One Thing About the SEO Industry, It Would Be...
My personal ending would be - to Improve the Industry's Professionalism. We're a young industry, which means opportunity, excitement and lots of fantastic entrepreneurs and personalities. Conversely, it also means a lot of unprofessional, immature behavior, even from those of us who should know better (and yes, I'm certainly including my own actions from time to time in that gr...
Blabbing with Jessica Bowman: SES, In-House SEO, and Noob Advice
Before SES San Jose I interviewed Chris Winfield about the panel he was speaking on, social media, and other fun stuff. With SES Chicago just around the corner (December 8-12), I had the opportunity to interview another ...
One-Time or Ongoing SEO - Is it a Yes or No Question?
Being that I am mostly on the business development/sales side of things, I hear a lot of the concerns, questions, thoughts, etc from our clients. One of the things that has come up more and more is, "Do we really need to have ongoing SEO maintenance?", or "Can we wait on doing the ongoing SEO?" It sounds like it should be an automatic "You need it" (being that this is the business I'm in and my business partner and I would love the work), but is it always been that easy?
Sigh... More Ignorance About SEO
As I said, blogging is light this week, but I couldn't help but notice this thread at Metafilter. How can we fight against such entrenched, misinformation and stereotypes? SEO people remind me of "weight weenies" in the bicycle world. Instead ...
Chatting with Chris Winfield: SES, Viral Marketing, and Desert Island Essentials
One of my friends and colleagues, Chris Winfield, is presenting on how to ignite viral campaigns at SES San Jose later this month. If you're attending SES San Jose, I highly recommend hearing Chris's presentation. Not only is he a great speaker, he knows his stuff when it comes to social media marketing, link bait, and viral marketing. Also,...
Answers to Your Questions
At the beginning of last week, I asked for your questions and recieved more than a hundred! As promised, here's a first round of answers to those queries, and, not surprisingly, I think there's some terrific material in here for everyone who reads SEOmoz or works in the SEO or startup community. The SEO...
SEO Industry Survey Results Released
We've been working pretty hard on pulling together the numbers from the roughly 2700 responses to the SEO Industry Survey, graphing the results, and writing up some thoughts in an article on the SEO Industry Survey. Being the new guy at SEOmoz, the gang thought it would be a good idea for me to pull myself out ...
Reflections on the Industry: the Hot Tub, the Economy, and SEO
I was at my neighborhood hot tub last night enjoying a glass of wine and conversation with my husband when a stranger appeared. This is always an awkward moment. You don’t want to be rude and leave, but you also don’t want the stress of engaging in what will most certainly turn out to be meaningless conversation. That was not the case this evening…. Introductions...
Who's Tedster? If You're an SEO, You Should Know
He's arguably the most well-known poster at WebmasterWorld.com. He's cited by some of the most reputable SEO minds in the industry. He has likely influenced hundreds if not thousands of enterprising webmasters. Who is this veritable titan of SEO that I speak of? Why Tedster of course. I know, I know. Many of you are probably asking yourselves, "Who the heck is Ted...
Moz Community News
SEOmoz has one of the best communities around and I want to invite my fellow Moz members to get together at SMX. Besides that, I've also got some cool things to share with you about your fellow members here. The calendar already has SMX West marked (albeit for a single day?), but only a few people seem to be attending besides the moz staff. So he...
